The Top 22 Arena Football Players versus The Best 18 NFL Players?
Heres the deal. Understand that only 9 players are allowed for the NFL on either side since I believe the NFL is clearly superior to any AFL team or players. The NFL is to be handicapped by loss of 1 linemen and 1 backfield player on offense and 1 defensive lineman and a safety. They have to play the NFL style game tho. What do you think? Thanks. NFL on offense:
Losing a lineman and RB/TE/FB would be huge, and the Arena football team could use the 2-man advantage to blitz or put double coverage on receivers, so the NFL O-line and QB would have to be smart and read and react to schemes with fewer players than they’re used to. NFL players know how to thrive on an 11 man roster, not 9. The lack of experience in this essentially new game would be the difference. Their best hope would be in the running game.
AFL on offense:
The NFL players would essentially be in a 3-3 defense with one member of the secondary falling down EVERY PLAY. They would have a LOT of trouble getting to the AFL QB, and the extra time would allow the AFL’s WRs and TEs and RBs to get open for receptions. The AFL would passs all over the depleted NFL defense. I don’t think they’d find success running against the NFL, though.
Since 9 NFL players should find moderate success running against an 11 man AFL defense, I don’t think the game would be a blowout. But since I think the AFL team would find considerable success in the passing game, they would get the win, by, oh, 10 points or so.
